Interview your mom or dad about their job!

Do you really know what your mom or dad does for a living and the path they took to get there? During advisory, create a list of 20 questions that you would like to ask your parents about their career choices. Go home and conduct the interview and bring the results back to share with your advisory group...you might be surprised at what you learn!

Some questions to consider:
  1. When you were my age, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
  2. What was your first job? Did you have a job as a teenager? What did you like/not like about it?
  3. What made you decide to go to the college you went to? Or why did you decide not to go to college?
  4. If you went to college, what did you major in? What made you choose this?
  5. What was your first career? What were some things that you remember about having this new responsibility?
  6. Have you ever changed careers? Did you have to go back to school to do that? What made you change your career?
  7. Would you want me to go into the type of work that you do? Why or why not?
  8. What is it you enjoy most about your job? Least?
  9. If you could go back in time and choose another path, would you? What would it be?
  10. What advice do you have for me about choosing a career?
